Concacaf has revealed the initial details of the first-ever Women's Champions Cup, and Portland Thorns FC is one of three NWSL clubs that will be vying for the trophy. The W Champions Cup draw – happening on June 6 – will not only determine the opponents for all 11 clubs participating but it will aslo serve as an unveiling of the debut tournament's brand identity.
The premier edition of the continental tournament will begin with the preliminary knockout round in mid August 2024 that will cut the field to 10 clubs. The group stage will take place between August 20 and October 17 and will consist of two groups of five clubs. Each team will play four group stage matches, with the top two finishers advancing to the final four of the tournament. The semifinals, third place match, and final will be hosted at a yet-to-be-announced venue, and are set for the week of May 22-25, 2025.
For the finalists, it won't just be a trophy that will be on the line but also one single spot representing the North and Central American and Caribbean region at the first edition of the FIFA Women's Club World Cup which will feature 16 clubs and be played between January and February 2026.
