MATCH RECAP | Portland Thorns draw in Home Opener vs Angel City FC 1-1

Thorns remain undefeated against Angel City at home as Reilyn Turner bags her first regular season goal for Portland.

PORTLAND, Ore.  (Friday, March 21, 2025) – Portland Thorns FC fought to a 1-1 draw in its Home Opener against Angel City FC, keeping its home undefeated streak alive against its LA rival to register the first point of the 2025 NWSL season.

Conceding early on, the Thorns regrouped and fought back hard to find their equalizer, ultimately reaping the benefit of their labor courtesy of forward Reilyn Turner’s strike in the 30th minute to bring Portland level before the end of the half.

The second half was a gridlock battle between the two sides looking to get the go-ahead goal. Portland dominated the run of play in the final 45 minutes, constantly threatening the Angel City backline as it strung together 31 final third entries and 17 touches in the opposition box to register 9 shots. The Thorns defense also locked down to record 6 won tackles and 6 interceptions, allowing the opponents only 2 shots on target in the second half.

Neither team ultimately was able to get the winner, but the Thorns will go home tonight with its first point of the 2025 season in the bag and a lot of positives to build from ahead of its home match vs North Carolina Courage next weekend.
