Portland to Paris: Sophia Smith, Sam Coffey and the USWNT win Gold Medal with 1-0 victory over Brazll

The U.S. Women's Soccer Team won its fifth Olympic gold medal by defeating Brazil 1-0, with Mallory Swanson scoring early in the second half at the final match of the Paris Games. This victory marks the Americans' first gold since the 2012 London Olympics and completes an undefeated run under new coach Emma Hayes. Sophia Smith and Sam Coffey played pivotal roles in the team's success throughout the tournament, contributing to the U.S. defense and attack. Goalkeeper Alyssa Naeher secured the win with a crucial one-handed save in stoppage time, as the U.S. celebrated their triumph at Parc des Princes.

Coffey and Smith, along with their four other Thorns teammates who competed at the Olympics will return to Portland to continue National Women’s Soccer League regular-season play on Saturday, August 24 at Red Bull Arena against Gotham FC. The Thorns olympians will be welcomed back to  Providence Park on Saturday, Saturday, August 30 when the team will host Bay FC at 7:00 p.m. PT. Tickets are available at www.thorns.com
