Thorns FC forward Sophia Smith named to March/April Best XI

The National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) today announced that Portland Thorns FC forward Sophia Smith was named to the NWSL Best XI of the Month, presented by Prime, for the months of March and April by the NWSL Media Association and the NWSL’s on-air broadcast talent. It marks the first time this season Smith has earned Best XI of the Month honors, and the fifth overall throughout her career.

The Thorns FC forward started every one of the team’s six matches, scoring a team-leading five goals, while contributing an additional two assists. Smith recorded two braces during said time, against Kansas City Current on March 16 and then against Chicago Red Stars on April 27. Throughout the two months Smith led the league in goals, shots and shots on target.

The NWSL Best XI of the Month is selected each month of the regular season by the NWSL Media Association, a collection of writers that cover the league on a consistent basis, and the NWSL’s on-air broadcast talent.
